For our Summer Lunch, we were very pleased to welcome along Kate Barmby as our guest speaker to our very well supported lunch. Kate is a farmer’s daughter who is married with two daughters.
Kate developed a love of baking practically as soon as she could stand up and was frequently baking at home from a young age – she recalls making biscuits unaided at the age of 6! This love of baking, and cooking, continued and she is a great believer of sharing her love of what is baked for others to eat and enjoy.
Kate is entirely self taught and was seen by many of us creating some wonderful bakes whilst she was a contestant on the 2016 Great British Bake Off where she was proudly flying the flag to promote her love of Norfolk. Keen to support all things local, she ensured the eggs on her chocolate cake were, naturally, Wayland Eggs!
The last year have been somewhat busy for Kate and many new opportunities have been created, including Richard Hughes Cookery School, appearing at the Royal Norfolk Show and is now offering tailored Home Courses.
At our lunch, Kate brought along a chocolate cake which she covered with a chocolate ganache and decorated with seasonal berries and beautify roses handmade in modelling chocolate. After lunch this was auctioned off and added to the raffle proceeds totaled £81.00 which was donated to the Purple Picnic Fundraising Efforts of Nelson’s Journey, of which Kate is a supporter.
Our next event is an Artichoke Fashion Show where we are fundraising for the Wayland Memory Café. This will be on Wednesday 20 September at Broom Hall and tickets are available from Ann, Clare, Debbie, Wayland Partnership for Belvoir in the High Street. Tickets cost £6.50 and include a drink on arrival. For queries regarding the Fashion Show, please call 01953 886755.
